Hello Everyone. I have been MIA for a while and I apologize. My son started kindergarten and with a husband who works 6 days a week and doesn't get home until the kids go to bed it's been a bit crazy in my house. My daughter starts kindergarten this year. Lord help me!!

As most of you know we are pet owners. It's kind of hard not to be when your husband owns a pet store. We have two dogs, a cat, a snake and a bunny - the last two are kept separate for obvious reasons. Anyway, I've decided it's time to start reorganizing my home and figuring out ways to keep it clean and pretty. Searching on Pinterest I have found many great ideas and decided to start copying some of the ideas I've found through different blogs. The first blog I have found that I am in LOVE with is I Heart Organizing. She is amazing and although it would cost a lot to do a complete makeover in my home all at once, I plan to take it one step at a time.

Step one will be to redo my kids playroom based on ideas from I Heart Organizing.

Since my son has started Kindergarten and my daughter is hot on his heels I'm also thinking of transforming the closet in that room to a working space with a desk.

I know you guys follow my blog for the crochet patterns. Admit it! You only love me for my patterns. But the sooner I get my home life in order the sooner I can get back to crocheting more and creating more patterns for you.

I would like to ask for your assistance though. I have found this blog which I plan to follow, but I would love more suggestions on blogs to consider that could help me on my journey. If you have any ideas or blog suggestions please comment below or post on my Facebook Page.

This pattern is for a newborn, if you would like to make it a different size just increase or decrease chains to fit head size. ALWAYS have an even number of stitches so the fpdc & bpdc will always be alternating.

Row 2: Ch 1, *fpdc in next chain/post, bpdc in next chain/post, repeat from *, sl st at the top of the Ch 1.

Row 3: Repeat Row 2 until your work reach 9.5 inches, sl st and tie off. Weave in ends.

Take your ribbon, cinch together at approximately 5.5-6 inches from the bottom and double knot your ribbon. You must make sure that your hat that you have left enough room on the bottom portion so that your hat will fit. Tie a bow with your ribbon.

*You could also use a button instead of a ribbon if you prefer but you will still have to cinch the hat closed with yarn*

Ok let's get started!

Ch 4, sl st to join

Row 1: Ch 2 (counts as 1st dc), 6 dc (7 dc total)

Do NOT join, use yarn marker

Row 2: 1 sc & 1 hdc in 1st stitch (counts as 2dc, this keeps a gap from forming between Row 1 and Row 2), 2 dc in each stitch (14 dc total)

Row 3: *1 dc, 2 dc, repeat from * (21 dc total)

Row 4: *1 dc in the next 2 stitches, 2 dc, repeat from * (28 dc total)

Skip 1 dc and sl st to join with the 2nd dc. (This prevents a large uneven knot)

Sl St new color, Ch 2

Row 5: 1 sc (to prevent gap), 1 dc in each stitch (28 dc total)

Row 6-7: 1 dc in each stitch (28 dc total)

Skip 1 dc and sl st to join with the 2nd dc. Tie off and weave in ends.

For the flower I followed AlliCrafts Open Flower Tutorial and then sewed a button on top and sewed the flower to the hat. I chose to sew the flower on to the section where I attached the yarn and tied it off to cover up any uneven looking stitches.

Now you're done. It's a really easy pattern and beanie to make especially for a beginner. If you are a beginner you may want to choose a less fuzzy yarn that the soft illusions since it may be difficult to see your stitches.

I like to try new things and I like to make people happy. There are so many people out there less fortunate and I always want to make sure that I never forget that. I really try to teach my kiddos the same thing because how else are they going to learn when they are blessed to be healthy and have a good home. Not always clean but still a good home. Hey you can't have everything, right??

I recently joined a group that crochets for cancer patients. The organizer of the group has connections with an oncologist office and they donate their chemo caps and other items to the patients there. I thought that was a great thing to do but I always like to try something a little different so I came up with my own idea. Thus was born:

BEANIES FOR PREEMIES

For those of you that know me you know that I love coming up with awesome names for stuff. This one just fell out of my mouth when I was describing to someone what my next project would be. And since it rhymes it's PERFECT!!! So I'm going to assume that any of you that read my blog can guess what this project entails but just to clarify a little more, I plan on crocheting beanies for the tiny sweet babies that are in the NICU at the new Texas Children's Hospital they just built out here in West Houston. I am so grateful to have had two perfectly healthy beautiful children (they get all that good stuff from me of course). However, there are so many people that aren't as fortunate and their babies are battling for their lives as soon as they enter the world. Not only that the parents aren't even to take their new bundle of joy home. Some are even less fortunate and are unable to even hold their baby. As a mother who never had that hardship I can't even fathom the torture they must go through.

But since everyone likes gifts even those that are distraught I thought what better than to crochet some little beanies for the sweet angels in the NICU so that their parents have one less thing to worry about and hopefully it will also lift their spirits in some small way. So after searching for some preemie patterns I found a couple of cute ones I am going to use.

Just look at those sweet faces. Now I know why people steal babies. Just kidding that is VERY WRONG!! Babies are adorable but stealing them is frowned upon. Bummer because that would mean no more labor. But who am I kidding I more than have my hands full!!!

So once I get these beanies made I will take pictures. Hopefully I can get some pictures of the preemies in the beanies which would be so touching!! I can't wait to start crocheting my heart out for these sweet little ones.

I was kidnapped by some Channing Tatum lookalikes and forced to be their Queen. It's been horrible. No actually I've just been super busy. But I really wish the former was the truth. I've been working on some hammocks for the photographer I work with. I'm in love with these hammocks. They are so big and adorable. The pictures aren't the greatest, but hey I'm a Crocheter not a Photographer! I've also done a couple of dresses and some other miscellaneous stuff for her. I can't wait to show her. I get all warm and fuzzy inside when people are happy with my work. I'm convinced I'm part puppy and I thrive on a metaphorical pat of the head. No belly rubs though that's just creepy.
Shocking Motherhood Experiences!!Motherhood is a beautiful gift from God. True, but since we were created in His image it's only natural to believe that He is a bit of a prankster. After having two beautiful children I can attest to both but more so about the PRANKSTER part. I should really start writing down the things that my kids do to embarrass me or that make me cringe...but there isn't enough paper!!

So it's a normal day at work. I'm working....oh and frequently checking Facebook. The clock strikes 2:00pm and the countdown to home begins. I miss my kids, like I do everyday, until I pick them up and they start fighting before we leave the daycare parking lot. Now I remember why I enjoy my job so much. I never have to yell or threaten my coworkers. Then my phone rings, it's my kid's daycare. Oh crap, what do they want? I answer and it's the director calling and the conversation goes like this:

Director: Ms. Dupont?
Me: Yes
Director: Hi, we have Elijah up here and he's complaining that his ear hurts. He says there is a rock in his ear.
Me: Wait....WHAT?!?
Director: Yes, we can't see anything but he said he put a rock in his ear to see if it would fit.
Me: Ok, please put him on the phone (talking to a 4 year old is always productive, right?!)
Elijah: Hi Mommy
Me: Hi Elijah, did you put a rock in your ear (in my least accusing voice which strangely sounds almost cartoonish - I'll have to work on that!)
Elijah: ..........yes (in a quiet "I hope I don't get in trouble for this" voice)
Me: Did you get it out or did it get stuck
Elijah: I couldn't find it.
Me: (What I'm thinking in my head) OH HELL!!! Really?!?

I was pretty proud for not getting upset at having to leave work early since I have a boss that frowns on that. Weird, huh? Then panic set in and I get instant indigestion. That's an immediate sign that my anxiety is flaring - OH CRAP MY PILLS ARE AT HOME!!! Looking for next best thing: MARGARITA!! Oh yeah I'm at work and my boss frowns on that too. He's always cramping my style!

Next step I call the Pediatrician and to make my anxiety worse the woman acts like this is the first time EVER that she's heard of something like that. Hey wait, I remember a coworker telling me about a drive-thru Margarita place. Mental note: stop on the way! So I pick up both kids and by this time the WHOLE daycare knows of the "Rock in the Ear" incident. Off to the Pediatrician we go and sure enough there is a rock in his ear or so I am informed by the nurse. Well then the 10 year old girl in me creeps out and all I can think about it "Ooh cool, I wanna see". Well if I feel like that I know you do too!! So here you go. What do you think? You see that little brown thing? Yep, you guessed it. It's a rock. Hmm...I guess it does fit. Elijah must be thinking "The experiment worked". The one to see if the rock fit? No, the one to see if he could drive his mother to drink heavily before she turns 30. DAMN, I forgot that Margarita drive-thru.

So the Pediatrician won't mess with it because he's afraid to damage his ear. Ok well here's your $25 and whatever else you get when you bill my insurance. Thanks for NOTHING! So then they call the ENT (Ear, Nose & Throat) Dr. so send me over there. In the mean time I'm telling Elijah to jump on his foot while he leans his head over. Hey it works when water gets clogged in my ear. Maybe that's a universal trick that also works on rocks. IT DOESN'T!! Oh and not my proudest moment, but neither does a bobby pin. It was worth a shot. Thankfully I didn't make it worse or deafen my child. Like I said not my proudest moment.

So I go over to the ENT who is going to "squeeze me in" which apparently means "wait in the waiting room until we close and every other person has come and gone". Translation noted. We finally get in there to then be told by the nurse that it's always 4 year old boys. I guess that should make me feel better but all I can think is "My daughter is going to grow up and probably end up marrying a guy that used to put rocks (or some other equally dumb item) in his ears. These are men like my husband who, although I love him to death, drives me crazy sometimes because he just had to "see what would happen" if he did _________ <--- Insert Moronic Idea here. Sound familiar?? Poor Madison. My only hope is that she grows up to become a single old cat lady. Did I mention that I have high hopes for my children....ya know, just in case that wasn't coming across correctly.

Anywho, the ENT finally came in and made me hold Elijah's head down while she dug this rock out. Although it was difficult as a mother to have to do that while your child cries. As a woman who enjoys being right, I felt that this was just what he needed to make sure he NEVER has this EXPERIMENT in mind again!! I think his ears are safe, but there are several other open orifices that items could be crammed. Note to self: Search for a Proctologist....just in case.

So I know your curiosity is getting the better of you so here you go. Don't be fooled by it's size and rock-like charm. It's the DEVIL!!!!

It's just the perfect size to RUIN YOUR DAY!!! However, I am keeping it and it will forever be the hilarious "Rock in the Ear" story I will be telling his girlfriends about in hopes that they run away and leave my sweet boy alone. "Don't play with filthy girls, Norman!" (A Psycho reference in case you aren't a movie nut like me)

So I hope you enjoyed my crazy day yesterday. I feel like this post will be a recurring one. I will frequently post about all of the off the wall things my kids do and say.

See ya wouldn't wanna be ya - oh wait maybe I would!!!

Amberhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/16192862081866365650noreply@blogger.com4tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6322534542821690168.post-10359898305004190072012-05-15T15:12:00.001-07:002012-05-15T15:12:09.535-07:00Boredom....WHAT IS THAT????It's a warm sunny day and I am at home with nothing to do. I desperately wish one of my friends was free to do something. All I can think about it how BORED I am. Ugh what a horrible feeling!!

Fast forward a couple years later......ok 10 years. Ugh how time flies and how it must be showing on my once teenage skinned face. Anyway I will mope later. So fast forward and I have since been married and had 2 WONDERFUL kids (until they start whining which now seems like every 5 seconds). The days of being home and aching for something to do have long since floated away (taking my beautiful teenage skin with it). I now only understand boredom like I do with any other myth like alien abduction: Enough people claim to have experienced it so it must be true, right??

Here's the truth: Teenagers and Men (especially Husbands) experience boredom. For all of us WOMEN and MOTHERS there exists no such thing. In fact we have what I will call Reverse Boredom or RB. RB is an epidemic that there is no cure for. The only cure would be more time in a day or a clone. Neither of these have yet to have happened.

Hello my name is Amber and I suffer from RB. I wake up and hit the ground running. Why you ask? Well because there is no other option (or so we have molded ourselves to believe). I work full time because it's necessary to provide well for my family. I do stuff with other moms so that my kids can play and so I can have some time to chat with other moms. I crochet because I enjoy it and because it also makes me a little spendin' cash. I do a million other things but I'm too busy to list them all....DUH!!!!

Anyway I basically need to stop sleeping or start working part time so I can fit my life into my life!! Crazy how that happens. Oh how I miss the teenage boredom days sometimes. Ok well I am off to find something else to do since I seem to have a problem keeping still. RB is a severe condition that is only suppressed with a margarita or some other yummy ADULT beverage!! Now I want one - GOTTA GO!!!

Talk to you soon!!Amberhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/16192862081866365650noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6322534542821690168.post-26979634392348172082012-04-24T08:36:00.002-07:002012-04-24T08:36:53.467-07:00Back, Pumped and READY TO GO!!!Hello all. I'm back from vacation and I'm ready to get back on track. I feel like I have a lot of catching up to do - that's because I do. WEIRD!! It never fails, when I'm gone it seems like I have twice as much to do to make up for that time lost. We had a great time at Disney World. It's something we will never forget!! Definitely happy to be home in my own space. You take "home" for granted when you are all crammed into a hotel room like sardines. Less smelly though....slightly.

I have a lot of ideas for my crocheting and I can't wait to get started. I'm hoping to start posting my own patterns soon, but I have several crochet projects to finish before I will have the time to sit down and do that. I wish I could be like Michael Keaton in Multiplicity and duplicate myself to get more done. Only I would probably end up with a bunch of the "slow" Amber's that like pizza http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YRQFMHRSj9I&feature=results_video&playnext=1&list=PL1780F1480BD88FDF

Until then I will stick to just one of me and a healthy love of pizza. Once I start getting some of the items finished I will post pictures. I did finish the first grass rug. I'm going to be making several more colors. I will also be making some hammocks and a bunch of other unique items. Pictures to come. I have also been slightly distracted by my reading. There are just too many things to do!! Must go back to that duplication thing later. So far my kids aren't coordinated enough to handle the crocheting. And they can't read yet. I'm starting to think they are more trouble than they are worth. I must figure out some way for them to earn their keep. Yard work? No, they would probably break the mower somehow. Cooking dinner? No, we would only end up eating string cheese and pickles...well maybe I will come back to that when I get really tired of cooking. Grocery shopping? No, they would just buy toys and candy. Well I'm pretty much stumped. There must be something. Note to self: Google "child labor" later.

Domo Arigato Amberhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/16192862081866365650noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6322534542821690168.post-78821115473139711452012-04-09T12:07:00.001-07:002012-04-09T12:07:23.273-07:00M.I.A.Ok so I have been MIA lately. It's been a little hectic at work and at home. My crocheting has been put on the back burner lately. But I did complete a couple more baby beanies yesterday. I also made my kids Disney themed hats for our trip to Disney on Friday. That's right folks, we're going to Disney for our first REAL vacation in.....FOREVER. My husband and I have never really had a vacation where we have taken several days off from work and relaxed. Everything is always so hectic.

I'm super excited about this trip to say the least. My kids are going to have so much fun. I can't wait for them to do all of the stuff that we have planned!! Princess breakfasts and makeovers and pirate adventures. They are going to be dead tired by the end of it. I wish I had made more hats, but I don't know if I will have time. I would like to make 2 hats for my stepdaughters but I don't know what they would like.

Dear Michael Eisner please do not sue me for licensing infringement. We will still buy plenty of souvenirs. Thank you!

Anyway, when I get back from vacation I plan to get back into crocheting, because there are still plenty of things I need to make!!

I felt that it was a success. Monetary success....no. I didn't want to make a bunch of hats to sell for 2 reasons: 1. I prefer custom orders so that you can choose your own colors and other details and 2. I didn't want to spend all that time crocheting things that may not sell. I did get one official order and payment which was great. It was for an angry birds hat and I think it turned out well. What do you think?

I love doing the fun ones like this. So although I wasn't overflowing with orders I handed out plenty of my business cards and met a couple more photographers. There are photographers on every corner it seems like. WHO KNEW????

I'm still working on some projects for a photographer right now and am excited to post the finished pictures once I am done. After making the "Boobie Beanie" I thought it would be a great idea to contact the La Leche League. I'm waiting to hear back from them - but HELLO they are the biggest BOOBIE pushers out there!!

So what's next?? Global Domination!! But first, I am thinking I would like to start making up my own patterns and doing a weekly "pattern post". If any of you are interested in crocheting this would be a great way to get some free patterns. It's such a bummer when you see a cool pattern but you have to pay for it!!

Hopefully you guys like the idea and will all become dedicated crocheters - I will need some sweat shop workers!!! And you will be just perfect for the position. So get crackin'!!!

Please comment below and give me some ideas on some patterns I should post!!!

I would like to thank Teresa - The Crochet Geek for posting the pattern so I could make one. I think it turned out pretty well.

The second reason I decided to make it (the first being it was so stinkin' cute and HILARIOUS!) is that nursing is one of the most natural things a woman can do. Especially these days with all of the hair coloring, artificial nails (GUILTY), Botox (you know who you are), fake tans, nips, tucks and whatever new thing they are inventing that WE JUST HAVE TO HAVE - hopefully it's piece of chocolate (or bread, or cupcake, or......) that disintegrates cellulite leaving you with a Victoria's Secret body. Hmmm maybe THAT is Victoria's Secret - a mysterious candy that leaves you looking AWESOME!!! YEAH RIGHT!!!

Back to the breastfeeding thing. I nursed my two children. Not as long as some people do, my mother-in-law in particular. Who has 9 kids and nurses them until they are 4 or 5??? I can't even fathom that. My oldest son is 4 1/2 and there is no way he climbing up on my lap to be fed. But to each his own. I do think that it's every woman's right to nurse their child as long as they see fit.....within reason.....hopefully!! I was only able to nurse my daughter for a month but she has turned out just fine...except for that weird twitch. KIDDING!!! She's a great eater and although she can be a little picky (like her Mommy) at least she eats and according to her pediatrician is well above average (once again - like her Mommy).

Although I didn't have the balls (or should I say boobs) to nurse in public, I applaud all those women who do. That tells me that you put your child first....even before your fear of weirdo gawkers.

On the other hand though, to these same women: Please don't look offended if people look at you. Feel free if they STARE or say something inappropriate. But for most people it's a shock to see a women have it whipped out there even though the Rated - R part of it is covered by a <strike>ravenous</strike> sweet baby. I think it's great to breastfeed and even in public if that's where you are and you're baby is hungry. Common courtesy is certainly appreciated, especially if you are a "nurse my baby until he's in college" mommy and there are young children near by. That's the last thing I would want to have to explain to my 3 and 4 year olds. It's bad enough they want to constantly ask me questions about my privates I don't want them getting any bright ideas that I have become a food source......again.

I would say a good rule of thumb is: If they can write their name they are too old unless you get one of those prodigy children that does that sort of thing at 6 months. In that case your baby probably won't need to nurse since she will no doubt be able to drive to the store for some milk since she has discovered that cold cow's milk goes WAY better with Lucky Charms!! If you do have one of those children that is exponentially smarter than everyone else's kid, just know that no one is giving you the evil eye because of your public feeding session. We loathe you on a much deeper level!
I have goals as a Flighty Crafter, however with every new project they change...strange how that happens. Since crocheting is my latest and most successful venture I may be sticking with it for a long time. However, I have to say I have been considering whipping up some dog treats, especially since I now have 3 FREAKIN' dogs in my house. Who would have thunk it?? Especially since I consider myself a cat person - I have 2 of them...and a python and a large tortoise. What can I say my husband owns a pet store, it comes with the territory. I should start charging friends when they bring their kids over since my house is a petting zoo. There you have it folks my next craft is a petting zoo!! Just kidding, I love all my pets but I am drawing the line -------------- <-- There it is "THE LINE" I have drawn!

Back to my goals. Since I began crocheting I didn't start with goals or success in mind. I just started because I thought it would be fun - and it is!! My first goal I guess was to actually LEARN how to crochet. Check! Next goal: sell my hats to friends. Check! The next goal as you already know came from Noelle MacGregor (I think people deserve to get their props) who suggested I contact other photographers. Check! After that I really was just waiting to see what happened with the interested photographers. So now that I have had orders from 2 photographers Erin Carlyle and Alisa Murray, I feel personally satisfied. I think that the definition of success isn't so much about a monetary goal achieved as much as a feeling that you have. I feel successful since I have done more with my crocheting than I had thought I would. I just found out from Alisa yesterday that she is a national sponsor for the Babies R Us sweepstakes. She told me that she is going to be featuring my best stuff there. I just about died, I couldn't believe it. So even though it hasn't happened I feel like I have achieved success because I am happy where I am and where I am going. Who knows what great things will happen tomorrow but today I'm pretty happy with things.

I'm looking forward to the challenges and the sense of accomplishment I will feel. It's exciting. I have a feeling that I am going to be pretty busy with the crocheting soon, I may have to scout of some friends to help me out!! Overall though it's a really great adventure so far and only better things are to come. Now I need a yummy margarita to celebrate!!

Here is a picture of something I am working on now. This picture is what it is GOING to look like. I will post pictures of my finished product when I finish. It's a large project.

And yes it is done by crocheting. Doesn't it look like real grass!!! I can't wait to finish and see what it looks like in person.

Over & Out!Amberhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/16192862081866365650noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6322534542821690168.post-54063639714038398082012-03-01T10:02:00.000-08:002012-03-01T10:02:03.196-08:00Everything Happens for a ReasonSo I have been crocheting for 2 months now. It seems like longer than that with all of the hats I've done. But I am really enjoying it! It all started with Pinterest and seeing a crocheted baby beanie that I pinned. I thought it would look cute on my Maddy. One minor detail I was forgetting was the actual knowledge of HOW to crochet. So I decided to turn to the ULTIMATE teacher: YouTube. BINGO! I watched a couple of videos and BAM I figured it out. I guess you could call me a fast learner.

So now after 2 months I've sold almost all of the hats that I have made. And I don't even live in a cold city. Not too shabby! So a girl in my mom's group contacted me who is a part time photographer and that's where it really began to snowball. She asked if I would make her some props in exchange for the images. I said sure - it beats a blurry cell phone picture. So I made a couple and she has used them. Then she told me that I could do well with my hats by contacting other newborn photographers and selling my hats to them. Honestly, even after I made her the hats that thought hadn't crossed my mind. So I definitely have to give props to Noelle and I can vouch for her since the pictures below came out great. Go check her out Noelle MacGregor Photography

Look at those sweet faces. I'm telling you, you add a baby to something and it takes it to a whole new level. Thanks again Noelle!! I appreciate the tip.

So with her helpful tip I basically started searching the Internet for "Houston Newborn Photographers". A whole mess of them came up. Who knew there were so many?? I wish I had known when my babies were little. I would love to have had some awesome pictures like these. My husband and I are horrible picture takers. I can't tell you how many trips we've gone on only to come home with pictures of the scenery. There's really no proof we were there. You would think we are trying to hide from the government by not being photographed. I assure you we're not. All of that stuff got cleared up and we are off their radar as of today. Woo hoo!!

So with all of the photographers I was bound to get ONE interested, right?? Well in fact I have about 4 that are interested! I got responses back and they are happy to find someone local instead of having to pay for shipping and wait a long time. So one photographer has already given me 6 hats to make and I couldn't be happier about that. The other photographer I just met with last night. Her name is Alisa Murray and she's fantastic. I met her at her home, which is exquisite to say the least, and she welcomed me with open arms....LITERALLY. She's a hugger! She's great, super easy to get along with and definitely has that Paula Dean southern belle twang going on. Anyway, we sat and chatted for about an hour and just went over what she wants from me and what I want from her. I ACTUALLY stopped her mid-conversation at one point and asked her "Why are you so willing to help me? You're so established and busy. I don't get it." Her response? "That's just who I am".

She's too good to be true. She shoots the covers of 10 different local magazines a month and she's booked a year in advance. This is definitely the right person to be in touch with. The best part?? I know you thought all of that was the best part....I did too...at first. She wants me to do EXCLUSIVE items just for her use. She has no problem with pushing my normal hats to her clients. Her exact words were "I can sell these all day to my clients" Ok, Alisa go right ahead!!! But she really wants for us to work together and come up with really awesome props that you can't find anywhere else. I am so excited for that challenge. I couldn't ask for anything more - except maybe to move into her awesome house!!! I'll talk to her about that and see what I can do.

Since her clients are high end they (and she) want that "IT factor" with their photos and I think we are just the right team to make it happen!! This is so much more than I had bargained for 2 months ago while browsing Pinterest. I didn't, but I am sure glad it did. I will keep you guys updated on how it's going.

Ciao!

I've decided that soon I will need my own reality show to be entitled "Crocheting - Buried Alive...in YARN" I'm sure it will have more viewers than the Super Bowl. I can see it now: $1 million for people to air their 30 second commercials during my show. Did I mention my mind wanders??? No, but seriously I've been to Joann Fabrics 3 times this week (it's Thursday), they practically know me by name. But I can't help it they have a huge yarn selection. On the plus side that means that I'm getting orders for hats and thus need to go and buy yarn. But the dark side to crocheting that they don't warn you about it high school while they are discussing the other addictive drugs is the VERY QUICK accumulation of yarn that you build up.

I JUST started crocheting about a month or so ago and already I could <strike>overflow</strike> fill 3 Abercrombie & Fitch retail bags. You know the ones I'm talking about ladies the one with the super hot semi-naked LEGAL (or so I like to believe) young man on the front without a t-shirt but fully equipped with a washboard stomach. Anyone have some laundry to wash on his stomach?? I'm sure the clothes would be cleaner than ever. However, I have a feeling that they would smell strongly of cologne. Can't you smell it??

What was I talking about again?? Oh yeah YARN!! So I have a lot of yarn and I'm really at a loss on how to organize it properly. I've seen some cute things on Pinterest but I don't really have a desire to run out and buy a nice large cherry wood wine rack to display my beautiful yarn....not yet anyway. Give it time though, I'm sure I will go off the deep end by this weekend. All of my yarn is scattered into bags and my side of the bedroom is starting to get cluttered. I'm not even sure what yarn I have, which makes it worse because then I just buy more at Joann's. Vicious cycle.

If any of you have any ideas I would love it if you would post a comment!! Hell I would love it if you would just post a comment anyways!! I'm desperate for your approval....just kidding....kind of.

Ok so on another note I just received my new business cards in. I'm OFFICIAL now. What do you think. I'm impressed, it's just a bummer that I didn't have the really pretty picture of the baby in my Elf Hat before I placed the order. Oh well.
I didn't come up with the pattern though I did write it so that those of you who CAN read a crochet pattern will be able to do this. I want to give TOTAL credit for this beanie to Youtube User - TraceyBeauty for posting the video of how to make this cute and easy beanie.

To watch the video of how Tracey does it: Slouchy Beanie Video Tutorial

<span style="color: #351c75; font-family: Georgia, "Times New Roman", serif;">"Can you use it in a sentence??"

<span style="color: #351c75; font-family: Georgia, "Times New Roman", serif;">"Amber is a Flighty Crafter because she keeps changing her crafts."

<span style="color: #351c75; font-family: Georgia, "Times New Roman", serif;">Ok so this isn't a spelling bee, but I just wanted to reiterate why I am...well you know. So I had a EUREKA moment!! Literally just now!! I was thinking about why I am so "flighty" and I came to the conclusion that's it's not so much that I get really bored but more that I want instant gratification. Sometimes that means a full stockpile from couponing, sometimes that means success from dog treat making and sometimes it means others purchasing hats from me. I kept slightly burning (a.k.a. Cajun Style) the dog treats which frustrated me. With crochet I can finish a project in a couple of hours. That means I get satisfaction fairly quickly and that is always good. This is hard for me to admit but I CAN'T do everything perfectly. I know somewhere my mother is reading this and laughing because she can relate to my frustration of not being the best all the time. Maybe it's more about acceptance...I'm jotting that down to discuss with my therapist next time. Maybe it's me having an anal personality (Mom, please stop laughing so loud). I'm going to go with that one the most. Criticism is very difficult for me to take. I either get angry and defensive or I cry. Just in case you didn't know I can be a bit of a crier. I'm jotting that one down too for my therapist. Not like she doesn't know, I'm constantly grabbing a tissue. Since criticism is difficult to take, it only makes sense that praise is something I LOVE!! I love to get a compliment on something I have done well or in my Flighty Crafter case MADE well.

Crocheting well and people acknowledging that gives me that warm fuzzy feeling inside...the same feeling Hostess cupcakes give me. YEP, THAT GOOD!!! Sometimes I stumble over all of the flowers people are throwing at my feet....like I'm a celebrity or something. It's embarrassing, really. Ok back to reality. Seriously though, people are really liking these hats and I really enjoy making something that people enjoy. I made two kids and people enjoyed them but no one wanted to buy them for $25 like they do my hats, so thus I had to move on to another craft. One not so expensive!!! So a photographer friend/acquaintance of mine gave me the fantastic idea to contact photographers that specialize in newborn photography to see if they would be interested in my hats for session props. I did and they are!! I have gotten a few emails back from photographers asking for pictures and hopefully they will place some orders soon.

Who knows when I will find all the time to crochet these hats, but I love it so I will figure it out. Goodbye lunch breaks...hello crocheting (and money). I hope that my crochet business will continue to grow. I have several things on my list to crochet and I am planning on doing a show next month to help get my name out there. Things are definitely going in the right direction. Who knew this was going to happen from just watching one Youtube video. See how things can snowball for me?? That could be the OCD in me (jotting that down for the therapist as we speak). Either way I'm happy. YAY!! Happiness is good otherwise as you know....CRYING. So to all of you reading this who haven't bought a hat, the moral of the store is: BUY A HAT OR I WILL CRY. Something like that.

Here are the latest things I have made. ENJOY!!!

<span style="color: #351c75; font-family: Georgia, "Times New Roman", serif;">Hope you like them. I enjoyed making them. Spongebob was awesome!!

<span style="color: #351c75; font-family: Georgia, "Times New Roman", serif;">Over and out!

Amberhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/16192862081866365650noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6322534542821690168.post-17610932263019478692012-02-06T15:16:00.000-08:002012-02-06T15:16:46.129-08:00I'm GONNA be a Billionaire so freakin' soon...<span style="color: #351c75; font-family: Georgia, "Times New Roman", serif;">Ok well maybe "soon" is jumping the gun a little. But with $100 in sales and $110 in purchase orders I'm ballin' son! Purchase orders...listen to me, like I have a big corporation I'm running. Well in the near future I will!! As my boss would say "You gotta have goals". Let's just hope my Flighty Crafter ways don't get the better of me. But that never happens, I mean it's not like it's the basis of my blog or anything.

So the reason my post is titled as it is (FYI - sung to the tune of Bruno Mars "Billionaire") is because I have several people interested and I'm even planning on reserving a booth for a show in March to take custom orders. I enjoy crocheting and the best part about the hats I'm doing is that people are giving me new ideas. My boss wants a Star Wars theme for his 3 boys. I'm so excited. They will make such cute characters. I'm thinking: Yoda, R2D2 and a Stormtrooper. AWESOME!!! I got a request for Spongebob which I'm looking forward to finishing so I can post photos. I've also started making cell phones sleeves.

I can see retirement in my near future. If only I could give up food and shelter I could retire right now. But alas I must have some luxuries in life...ya know like a roof over my head. I know, I know, high maintenance. I will have to work on that. For those of you that ACTUALLY know me you know I am way more high maintenance than that. Have you heard someone say "Oh no, I broke a nail" if so it was probably me...oh and I was probably frantically pushing you out of the way to get to the nail salon so that Lynn (yes of course that's her REAL name...sheesh) can fix it ASAP. This is no laughing matter. I have actually been in therapy and discussed the anxiety that I have felt trying to search for a new nail lady...not anyLynn will do. TRUE STORY!! But thankfully I have found someone and all is right in my world again...oh and my therapist put me on meds. Some problems need more than a crying session on a couch.

So back to my hats. I made several over the weekend and am pretty proud of myself because I didn't use any patterns I just saw a picture and copied it. BAM!! So what do you think???
Oh and my dog Winnie loved her dress, she could hardly contain her excitement!!! Isn't it obvious??? I think I'm getting better and I'm probably going to be doing some more dog clothes too. If only I had more time. That husband of mine needs to make a Lady of Leisure already!!! Ok, I just woke up from that dream. But if I'm running a crochet business I guess I still wouldn't be a Lady of Leisure. The truth is I actually like working. I was on vacation the last 2 weeks of the year and I hardly changed out of my jammies. I looked like one of those frumpy ladies on "How Do I Look?" that say "but I'm comfortable". I'm comfortable with my capri leggings that I bought for $8 at Target only to find out they had a hole. I had every intention of returning them for a non-ripped pair but I was consumed by COMFORT once I put them one. Once again...TRUE STORY!! So needless to say (even though I just gave you a pretty legitimate reason) I don't want to end up in a pajama blackhole.

Honestly I think I like jamming my life full of stuff to do, if I didn't have a million things to do I really don't know what would happen. Probably search for another craft. Huh, things are starting to become very clear now. I'M CRAZY!! Time to up the dosage....again!!!

I'm signing off now. Gotta go home and put on my capri leggings with the hole in them. It doesn't get better than that!! Oh and to give you a visual we have 2 dogs and 2 cats so let's just say I have fuzzy black pants. Sexy huh?? You know it!! Everyday I'm shufflin'!!!
So what happens when you are sick as a dog and have no energy to do anything even the things you love?? Ooh ooh pick me...I know!! You feel miserable and on top of it I still have to go to work. BOO!!! First let me just thank my sweet kids, the fruit of my loins, the apples of my eye for giving me the plague. I love everything they make for me at school except when it includes deadly mutating germs. Ok so I lied I don't really love everything they make for me at school. Who really wants construction paper with glitter glued to it?? FYI Teachers glitter doesn't stick to glue!!!!!! What it does stick to is every inch of the interior of my car, my butt and for some odd reason my upper lip. Here's how you can tell when you have glitter on your upper lip: People can't stop starting at your upper lip while you're talking because it keeps shimmering. Either that or it's time to go get my lip waxed again. God I'm a hairy beast! But that's a post for another time when I feel compelled to tell you all about how a boy started calling me "Wolfie" in elementary school and I've been paranoid ever since. TRUE STORY!!

So my kids gave me this lovely present that requires a lot of tissue. And this isn't the dainty I'm lightly blowing my nose because I'm a girl and we don't do disgusting things. This is full on flock of geese honking happening here. So feminine, right?? No?!? Well how about when I throw in the old smoker congested hacking?? BINGO!! Nailed it!! I love being a girly girl. I have a lot of crocheting to do but feel like the walking dead. I'm actually pretty excited and can't wait for this sickness to move on and infect someone else - preferably anyone at work that annoys me. It will be nice to get a break from them...you know who you are!!

My crochet to do list is as follows:

iPhone sleeves
Baby beanies - for photo props in exchange for good pictures

Spongebob Hat for one of the attorneys at a firm my company uses. He wants it for his son. I found a great pattern and can't wait to start. Here's what it SHOULD look like when I'm done. Pretty cool, huh?

<span style="color: #351c75; font-family: Georgia, "Times New Roman", serif;">So that's what I'm working on right now. Crocheting takes a while so unfortunately I can't know these out as quickly as I would like, but it's ok. Now to figure out a way to organize my ever growing yarn collection. It's getting scary. Which reminds me I need to go buy some more. Hee hee!! I need the light brown for Spongebob's pants...his Squarepants that is. Bazinga!!

I also didn't get to do a lot of crocheting last night due to the fiasco that happened last night. So I mentioned I was sick, right? The last thing I need is a FIASCO, but that's just what I got. My husband wanted to go get dinner last night so I got the kids ready and was going to pick him up from his pet store. So I opened the car door for the kids, shut it and started walking around to my door when all of a sudden it happened. Horrible pain all over my feet. I literally kicked my shoes off into the driveway and started freaking out. ANTS!!! I had stepped in an ant pile. So I open the car door only to find my kids starting to scream, not just any screaming but horror movie screaming. I start frantically trying to get all the ants off of my son who apparently got them the worst. We're all screaming and he starts yelling/crying that he wants to go in the house. No big deal to grant him that wish, right?? WRONG!!!! That would be how it would go for the Cleaver's, NOT ME!! So I forgot to mention that I had previously given my new housekeeper my key and had to run by my husband's store to get his since I've been to busy/lazy/sick to make a copy. Therefore, I don't have the key on my ring I was just holding a loose key when I locked the door to leave. Well in all the chaos of me getting eaten and my kids having complete meltdowns I did something with the key and now, WHEN I DESPERATELY NEED IT, I can't remember what I did with it. Did I drop it in the ant pile? Did I put it in my purse? Did aliens abduct it?? WHO KNOWS!! Well I can tell you who DOESN'T know....ME!!! NOT GOOD!! My kids are standing at the front door and my son is screaming hysterically in a voice I have never heard before "I want to go inside!! I want to go inside!!" So I'm taking EVERYTHING out of my purse....NO KEY!! It's dark so I can't see in the grass. Finally, I do something that is a NO NO!! I have a meltdown myself and start crying hysterically...in front of my kids. This only makes them cry more. "Oh no Mommy is crying, we must be dying now" are the thoughts that my kids must be having. Oh and did I mention that in the middle of all of this I have called my poor husband to say in a horrified voice (with the kids screaming in the background) "COME HOME NOW!!!!" I can't even imagine what he thought was happening.

For some random (but God sent) reason there was a flashlight in my car. I searched in the car and realized I had dropped the key between my seat and the center console. Hooray!! It's only been 10 minutes. I'm sure the neighbors have already called the police to report me for attempting to murder my children. What else would explain all this hysteria?? So my husband walks in to find me on the floor in a fetal position crying for being the worst mother in the world and the kids are on the couch crying because they have now realized they have the worst mother in the world. This is very clarifying moment in my house. Poor kids. So Nathan walks in and starts asking what has happened. I can only assume he thought someone had broken in and was trying to kill us. Oh, did I mention that I still had my shoes in the driveway?? I'm sure that looked like a crime scene. Guaranteed he walked in adrenaline pumping.

No honey it's just your wife having a meltdown!! So he threw the kids in the tub just in case there were any ants left of them and then proceeded to soak our front and back yard with ant killer. That's my knight in shining armor!! By this time though I was soaked from tears and horrible sweating!!!

The moral of the story?? Never leave my house without the key on the keyring. I'm sure there are other morals but I'm starting to sweat and tear up again after now reliving those moments so that's all I can come up with right now.

Stay Safe there are ants EVERYWHERE!!

Amberhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/16192862081866365650noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6322534542821690168.post-61039845243246010922012-01-30T08:48:00.000-08:002012-01-30T08:48:18.658-08:00New Developments for this Flighty Crafter<span style="color: #351c75; font-family: Georgia, "Times New Roman", serif;">Happy Monday. Yeah right who am I kidding. Hey Monday you can stop showing your ugly face every week. I hate you. You make me roll my hot body out of bed after a leisurely weekend. Was that snickering I heard?? YES MY HOT BODY!! Did I stutter?? Ok so not nearly as hot as when I was 20 but that was a husband and 2 kids ago....and lots of cookies and macaroni & cheese. But this is a judge free zone people!! So moving on.

I made some more hats this weekend. What else would I do?? I'm not bored with this craft yet so I'm churning these babies out like I'm a sweat shop. Too bad I don't work in one I assume they don't get cookies and macaroni while working, I would drop weight so fast!! Ok back to reality. So here are the pictures of my most recent hats. Aren't you impressed?? I am. I made the koala one pretty much without a pattern. I only used a basic pattern for the hat. All the facial features I did on my own. BOOM!!! Beat that ___________ (<---- enter someone who is well known for crocheting. There has to be someone...right??)

I'm working on a hat for my daughter right now. It's going to be a pink and purple owl hat, she's excited. Why wouldn't she be. It will be the best owl hat ever!! That is until I make my next owl hat. Oh and for those of you who are wondering, I'm not conceited - I'm confident. Yes, there's a difference....I don't really know what it is right now but I don't have time for that. I'm working on making the best freakin' crocheted hats on the planet, remember?!?!

So what new developments?? Well I'm glad you asked. I finished the koala hat and that may turn into more orders since it's for my friend Stella's daughter. The koala is her school's mascot. Fierce, right?? I wouldn't want to meet a koala in a dark alley, he might hug me to death!! So I have instructed Stella (HINT HINT) to spread the word and hopefully more people will think it's a cute idea and want one for their kids. Here's hoping.

The other new development is that there is a show coming up for local businesses to promote their businesses. It is the Spring Fling event here in Katy and I plan on attending to showcase my hats. I will have to make a lot to display and will hopefully sell those and get a lot of custom orders. Who knows. I'm dreaming big here. My goal is to retire in 6 months. Like I said BIG DREAMS, come on keep up people.

So on to some personal aspects of my life. This weekend was awesome for another reason. My old cleaning lady starts today and she came by yesterday so I could show her around the new place and so she could silently judge how dirty my house was. FYI I was watching Hoarders last night and my house looks spotless compared to them so now I don't feel so bad. But hey if my house wasn't a mess then why would I need a cleaning lady. That's a thinker!!! So not only is she cleaning but she will also be cooking. CAN'T. CONTAIN. EXCITEMENT!!!!! She will be coming over 3x a week to cook and clean, and she will be cooking 2 meals at a time that way even when she's not there I will still have a meal cooked. This make life so much easier plus leaves me more time to crochet and take care of the kids. Hmmm where did they go?? Slippery little suckers!! Just kidding no need to call CPS, keep them on standby you never know when I will need an extended break from the kiddos. KIDDING!!!

So it's finally donned on my that I should put a disclaimer in my blog. Here it is. If you are overly sensitive this is not the blog for you and you should probably move back in with your mommy. I'm sure she can find your bottle somewhere, you two will be very happy together. Ok there you go, sorry to post that disclaimer at the end. Hopefully your aren't sucking your thumb and rocking back and forth in a dark room.

Who am I kidding???? My blog is awesome and everyone will love it. Once again: CONFIDENCE. Autograph requests can be posted below in the comments.

Peace out home slice!!Amberhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/16192862081866365650noreply@blogger.com2
